NYC Journal #14 + two pieces of advice
I once said to my Grandma while waving a bottle of something from it’s neck that I was going to drown my sorrows. She responded, they’re good swimmers.

When I was quite young I said to my Dad while trying to fold a letter evenly that I could not fold a letter if my life depended on it. He responded, it does.

I’m only mentioning these things b/c I thought if you took nothing from these pictures, then at least maybe I could pass on some words from those much wiser than myself.

graeme, your starting to sound like me. Not with the wiser quotes but the earlier attitude. Try to remember what MR Diggles was saying the other day in our little email string. The journey is the destination. Keep doing it if you enjoy it. I definitely enjoy what you are doing.
Thanks for inspiring me everyday.

graeme; this fotos are amazzzzing !! How could u possibly want 2 do anything other than
what you r ? Are you shooting with a leica rangefinder by chance ? your fotos remind me some
way like some of William T. Vollmans writings…++
Robert, man, appreciate the compliment, especially the allusion to Vollman since I just finished Europe Central a few weeks ago and have hordes of respect for that man’s work.
To answer your question, I shoot this street stuff with an old Canon AE-1. For commercial/editorial 35mm work I use Nikon f5s. I tend to own cameras that are, in short, not expensive, that can be stolen, and that I do not worry a bit about during day in and day out use.
“There is nothing, and I mean nothing, voyeuristic, or parodic, or deriding in these, no shell of sarcasm or hyperbole. No, they are offered with incredible tenderness…unimaginable really. Do you see this? Or at least can you believe this?”
Do you mind if I write this down and hang it in my darkroom?
@Paul: Absolutely, tape it up!
