I can definitely see the influence of the Japanese photographers you’ve posted about in the past. Beautiful work.

These are beautiful, man. You really have an eye for shape…

Great to see you back on the street. That Nikon continues to impress me. A colleague of mine uses the same camera and he absolutely swears by it. He says it’s the best camera he’s ever owned, and looking at these images, I don’t doubt it.

I hope all is well in your world. There’s a slim chance that I will be visiting NY in the next fortnight. If that’s the case I will be in touch, because it would be great to put a face to the blog.

    Cheers from Oz – Ryley

Ryley, your note is nice this morning.

Yes, I’ll shoot those little old Nikons for any job I can get away w/ 35mm for…one of the few cameras I’ve ever enjoyed – enjoyed in the sense that they’re cameras that you can completely forget when in hand, which is all I ask for, b/c our need to have something mechanical between us and what we are doing is unfortunate. It makes me want to be a writer instead.

The street stuff…yes…I know you see those things too, and I think it’s like the priesthood in a sense that some people must do it. Not want to do it, no, but in that William Gaddis sense of needing to do like needing to breathe. So keep working on it! For me now, it’s more of a whisper in my day and not a rooftop bellow. But, still, some of my greatest moments ever w/ a camera were working on that stuff. I don’t mean anything abstract when I say that the act of taking those pictures, the literal moments of clicking, interest me more than the pictures themselves…but that’s a whole other conversation.

Anyway…gotta get back to the hustle.
