nyc journal #…where’d I leave off?

I don’t really show this sort of candid street stuff much anymore. I still shoot it, but only for myself – it’ll maybe get a shitty contact sheet scan and then stuffed in a box. The other night I flipped through some of the contacts from this summer and cropped out ones I thought were cool.

This is a fun book of photographs I shot while at the beach this summer. There are 17 5×7″ B&W silver RC prints mounted in a white 8.5×11″ children’s craft book hand stenciled front and back in acrylic and shipped in a clear protective sleeve.

Each is completely unique and will be signed and numbered.

I’ll make up to 25 + 1 A/P in this edition.

“Be Afraid, My Friend” presentation and book

Be Afraid, My Friend is a video and book I shot this past winter on NYC streets using a Kodak Zi8 pocket video camera.

The book is 71 pages, 7.4×9.5,” softcover, perfect bound, $24. It doesn’t correspond exactly w/ the video, but it is close.

There were 4 portfolios in the original edition of this. They were prints hand mounted in leather albums. I still think they are beautiful as artifacts, but they were stupidly expensive and time consuming to make. Moreover, only 4 people have them, and I’m pretty sure they’re not being treated as coffee table books. I wanted a simple small copy for myself to have around, and also since doing the Occurrences newsprint edition, I had a number of people ask if I’d ever do an inexpensive version of Unreal City, so I decided to revisit it and do this.

“Occurrences” newsprint version

Recently I shared a new series of photographs called Occurrences. This is the newsprint edition. There are 1,000 copies of this.

It’s approx 11×14.” 56 pages.

New Book: “Occurrences”

Occurrences is a new book of 44 photographs. It is 58pg in length, sized 11×8.5,” printed on an archival acid free matte paper, and bound in linen hardcover. This hardcover edition will be extremely limited at 6 signed and numbered books and one A/P. However, an edition of 6 isn’t many, so I may do a newsprint edition later.

This quick little video shows the A/P. There will be a few very minor changes made to the finals, but nothing major.

And a big thanks to, Aaron Binaco for the help editing this work.

Nearly all of the photographs I’ve taken out on the street have been w/ a Nikon FE2 and either a 35mm lens or a 28mm AIS lens. The FE2 hobbles along, the lovely, diminutive little camera that it is. The 35mm is in shambles, and is shelved. And now the 28mm, as fine a piece of glass as I’ve ever used, for some reason, seems to have given up: suddenly soft w/ highlight blooming and a general feel that it was made in 1930. Sigh.

I don’t talk about gear. I’m not particularly sentimental, or even really care for it; for me to love a camera is for me to be indifferent to it, so as long as it works, and there’s no fuss, well, then I’m pretty happy. And work is what this little 28mm did, a soldier. But fickle I guess too, I’ve never had a piece of gear change personality so randomly. Anyway, I mention it b/c if anyone has met me, likely they met it too, hanging around my neck.

No longer.

Okay. That’s all. Moving on.
